Crabbing on the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is one of Australia’s most popular destinations for viewing incredible wildlife and natural scenery. The long stretch of coastline is home to a selection of pretty beaches that are flanked by soaring mountain ranges and ancient forests.

Down by the shore, visitors flock to gaze out at the stunning views of the ocean and try some of the fascinating things to do in the area. Crabbing is one of the most popular activities along the Gold Coast, with many of the beaches dedicated to crabbing and pumping for Yabbies.

Keen fishermen and novice crabbers alike gather together on the pristine sands to try their hand at catching some of these creatures and learning more about their habitat, lifestyle, and behaviour on the Gold Coast.

The area is renowned for its fresh seafood, and a trip to the region isn’t complete without tucking into one of the many fresh catches.
There is a unique tour you can take, too, that will open your eyes to the activities, food, and culture of this part of Australia. It starts with a cruise, where you can feed the local fish and friendly

pelicans, before trying your hand at catching the mud crabs that flood the beaches and fishing in the Tweed River.

If that wasn’t enough, there’s also Crab Cave, where you can delve into a world of aquatic displays and aquariums and learn more about the unique residents that live there. For foodies, there’s the chance to cook and eat the mud crabs you caught during the day at a pretty, lakeside restaurant. While dining al fresco, you can marvel at the jaw-dropping views across the Gold Coast and beyond – one of the biggest draws of the region.

It’s not just crabs that make a regular appearance on the Gold Coast. There are plenty of other species of shellfish, fish, and aquatic creature. Oysters are popular here and, while in the area, you can visit a local working oyster farm to learn all about how oysters are caught, harvested and sold in the region before buying some of the freshest catches of the day.

There are surprises around every corner on the Gold Coast, from beautiful woodland areas that taper down into white sand beaches and the glistening ocean. Crabbing is one of the best ways to enjoy local life, before exploring all the delicious seafood options that characterise this stretch of coastline.
